2. Content-
|
The students will learn about the War in the Pacific. Students will
be brought through specific battles that took place during this war
that held key importance in the outcome of the war. Students will
learn about the Attack on Pearl Harbor, to the battle of midway, from
Guadalcanal to the surrender of Japan.
Key People:
Franklin D. Roosevelt - Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945) was the
32nd President of the United States and the only chief executive to
be elected to more than two terms in office. Roosevelt held the presidency
from 1934-1945, leading the United States through the Great Depression
and World War II.
Winston Churchill - Winston Churchill (1874-1965) served as the prime
minister of Great Britain from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to
1955. He led Britain's fight against Nazi Germany in World War II.
Churchill was a talented orator, giving many stirring speeches to
boost national morale during the war.
Joseph Stalin - Josef Stalin (1878-1953) served as the General Secretary
of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union's Central Committee from
1922 until his death in 1953. Under his leadership, the Soviet Union
played a major role in the defeat of Hitler's Germany during World
War II.
Harry S. Truman - Harry S. Truman (1884-1972) became the 33rd President
of the United States upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt in April
1945. Truman, who had only a high-school education and had been vice
president for just 82 days before FDR's sudden death, inherited the
monumental task of leading the United States through the end of World
War II and the beginning of the Cold War.
Adolf Hitler - Adolf Hitler (1889-1945) was the dictatorial leader
of the National Socialist German Workers Party, or Nazi Party, commanding
German forces throughout World War II.
Benito Mussolini - Benito Mussolini (1883-1945) was the fascist prime
minister of Italy, with dictatorial powers, from 1922 until he was
overthrown in 1943.
Hideki Tojo - (1884-1948) Tojo became Prime Minister in 1941 and within
two months ordered a surprise attack on U.S. Naval forces in Hawaii.
(The subsequent attack on Pearl Harbor was planned by Admiral Isoroku
Yamamoto.) Tojo served as the political and military leader of Japan
until 1944, when it was clear the direction of the war had changed.

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
Students will be able to recognize the significant battles that
took place in the Pacific and the core encounters that turned the
tide of war for the U.S. This will provide insight on the main land
and Naval battles that took place and the tolls that impacted both
sides. Generally, students will learn mode about the War in the Pacific
and the decline of the Japanese empire's power, on other populations. |

|
1. Show where in the Pacific certain events happened.
2. Key leaders and important figures during the time period.
3. Show how the war was finally ended and what factors contributed
to the decision to drop the A- Bomb.

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Show the expansion of the Japanese Empire in the Pacific.
2. Talk about the formation of the Axis Powers
3. Introduce the War by showing why America first got involved in
it.

B. Development-
1. I will introduce myself to the class.
2. I will open up PowerPoint and introduce the topic.
3. I will go through each battle showing it's significance and key
points.

Checking for understanding-
1. I will ask if there are any questions throughout the PowerPoint
presentation.
2. I will hand out a survey and collect it back to see the results.

Closure-
1. I will end the PowerPoint and ask for any questions.
2. I will collect the survey back and record the results.

7. Evaluation-
|
1. When asking if there are any questions, If there are none, I
will once more go over a key point and assume the students understand
the concept.
2. When I go over the surveys I will see the results and through the
surveys I will be able to determine if the students understood my
lesson.

|
I will evaluate myself through the surveys and based on the number
of questions answered right or wrong I will see the effectiveness
of my lesson. |
