2. Content-
As first time AP students wouldn't you like to have a mentor or a guidebook helping you navigate the storm tossed waters of a hectic person and academic life? Wouldn't it be comforting to read about other's experiences, enlightening to benefit from their tips and advice, entertaining to laugh at their wit, and inspiring to know how they tackled the AP challenge and emerged victorious? Yes, many of us would welcome that objective advice. You have the unique opportunity to be those mentors, those guides who are charting the waters for the first time. You have the opportunity to share your insights in a creative way. You have the opportunity to make a quality product and recruit worthy individuals to follow you (their fearless leaders) into the AP program. You will be engineering an AP Almanac!
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Work in collaborative teams.
2.Create an original AP Almanac according to the rubric.
3.Reflect on your experiences and give practical advice to the upcoming AP junior English students.
 
4. Objectives-
1.Include all required elements as outlined in the rubric.
2.Each teammate must contribute equally.
3.Select a theme and construct a creative, neat, and colorful project.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Poster Board
Markers
Glue
Construction Paper
Computer access
*any other materials provided by the group members
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Each person in your group is responsible for an equal contribution to your almanac. During the evaluation stage, group members will have an opportunity to explain each person's contributions and comment on any inconsistencies"� so make sure to do your part!

 

B. Development-

1.a) Choose a group leader "� this should be someone organized, willing, and focused. The leader is responsible for keeping the group on-task and caring for materials belonging to the group.
2.b) Discuss how your group wants to divide the work. Consider the strengths and opinions of each person. Make a conscious effort to divide the work fairly and make sure everyone is involved. You may want to assign 2 people to do more arduous tasks.
3.c) Focus on making your almanac positive, interesting, honest, fun, and useful to upcoming/new AP English III students.
 

C. Practice-

1.Create a rough outline.
2.Contribute ideas and assign tasks equally.
3.Discuss needed materials.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Use the rubric and outline ideas to complete individual assignments.
2.Discuss ideas and give feedback through the group forum.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Use ToonDoo.com to create comics.
2.Use an online crossword puzzle maker.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Self-evaluate using the rubric.
2.Offer feedback in response to the work of at least 2 teammates.
 

G. Closure-

1.Submit the completed AP Almanac.
2.View the almanacs submitted by all other teams. Vote for the top 3.
