The Holocaust and World War II (Chapter 24 Unit 3-4) |

2. Content-
|
Students have been studying the Holocaust and its effect on US history
and the US war effort in the European theater. Students have reviewed
basic concepts, including concentration camps, extermination, camps,
Nuremberg Laws, and the Final Solution |

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
1.Students will learn to accomplish independent research as well
as tell the difference between sources that should be used and those
that should not (PA Standard 8.1.U C)
2.Students will relate the Holocaust to World War II as a whole, identifying
what aspects are of significant importance (PA State Standard 8.1.U
A and B) |

4. Objectives-
|
1.Students will create a respectable presentation with research
condensed into their own words
2.Students will relate how their assigned aspect of the Holocaust
(location, person, or event) was important in the context of the Nazi
effort towards a Jewish genocide as well as the war effort at large |

|
5. Materials and Aids-

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Students were introduced to the major concepts and events of the
Holocaust through an introduction to the vocabulary provided by the
textbook
2.Students will review these major concepts through lectures by Mr.
O'Neil and Mr. Branstetter as well as staying up to date via the Power
Point notes provided on the Moodle site. |

B. Development-
1.Students will be introduced to the presentation concept through
a handout fully explaining expectations of the instructor for the
project
2.Students will be in possession of the same grading rubric the instructor
will use to grade the projects |
|
|
C. Practice-
1.Students will be provided at least three class periods to work
in-class on their presentation, including time for research
2.Instructor will provide email address so students may contact instructor
with any questions or issues |

|
D. Independent Practice-
1.Students will be expected to work on the project at least partially
outside of class, as time provided in class will likely not be adequate
to complete a top grade product |

|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1.Students will be made aware of point deductions per day for late
assignments
2. Extra time in-class to work on project will be assigned on an as-needed
basis |

|
F. Checking for understanding-
1.Students will have the full attention of instructor during in-class
work time as well as method of contacting instructor during after-school
hours for assistance |
|
|
G. Closure-
1.Students will be given two weeks to turn in project
2.Grades will be returned to students as soon as completed, along
with full explanations as to why student received said grade |
|
|
7. Evaluation-
|
1.Ideal product will be original, professional, and respectable
presentation fulfilling requirements of project as well as presented
in a timely manner, showing suitable knowledge of assigned topic,
the Holocaust, and World War II at large. |
|
|
8. Teacher Reflection-
|
Abnormally high degree of students turned project in past deadline,
leading me to believe the deadline may have needed to be lengthened
or importance of deadline stressed more strongly. Final products were
overall complete and showed considerable effort, while some students
remained somewhat confused as to the exact requirements of their original
work. I have taken note of this and will make future assignment expectations
more clear. |
