1. Find similarities between two cultures
2. Find differences between two cultures
3. Express and present comparison between two cultures
 
4. Objectives-
1. Students will identify important figures in Deaf Culture
2. Students will identify important figures in hearing culture.
3. Students will draw comparisons between both cultures.
4. Students will understand the similarities in how both are represented.
5. Students will explain why they are important.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Venn Diagram Worksheet, Show short clips of the film "Through Deaf Eyes" and book "Famous Deaf Americans"
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Deaf Culture's famous figures
2. Draw comparison with Hearing society
3. Show short clip of film "Through Deaf Eyes"
 

B. Development-

1. Show example V-D on ELMO
2. Put blank V-D on Elmo to list famous figures
3. Ask Students whom they consider famous figures and why
4. Ask students whom they think are famous deaf figures and why.
 

C. Practice-

1. Pass out blank Venn Diagram worksheet
2. Pair up students to work on one sheet
3. Students will list figures on both sides of V-D
4. Students will find similarities and comparisons between two cultures
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Pass out copies of excerpts from the book "Famous Deaf Americans"
2. Students will be assigned homework to make a presentation by Power point.
3. In report, summary, or PowerPoint, students will write down and explain why there are connections between two cultures.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Write report or summary if cannot use PowerPoint
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Monitor student's in class V-D worksheet
2. Observe and feedback towards student's presentations.
 

G. Closure-

Class Activity Game "Jeopardy"
