4. Objectives-
Given the theme for the week, "Native Americans," each child will learn more about and share his/her Navajo culture by participating in "I Do, We Do, & You Do" activities throughout the week.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
BOOKS:
"The Goat in the Rug"
"Colors of the Navajo"
"Earth is My Mother, Sky is My Father"

Woven Basket- Construction paper cut into strips, pictures of food from magazines
SandPainting- colored sand, copied picture to paint with sand
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

TUES- Gather children to carpet, read- "The Goat in the Rug," Think/Talk Time
WED- Gather children, read- "Colors of the Navajo," Think/Talk Time
THURS- Gather children, read-
"Earth is My Mother, Sky is My Father," Think/Talk Time
*All books Theme-Related in Book Basket
 

B. Development-

TUES- Sing/Act- "I'm A Little Navajo"
WED- Sing/Act- "The Brave Little Indian"
THURS- Recite the color words in Navajo. Each child will find that color in the room and identify it by color in Navajo
*All words to Fingerplays attached to lesson plan. They are also sent home each week for parents.
 

C. Practice-

D. Independent Practice-

TUES- Each child will weave his/her own basket and choose healthy food to put in their basket.
WED- Each child will begin their sandpainting project.
THURS- Each child will complete his/her sandpainting project which will be displayed for Native American Night :)
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-


Teacher/Peer Modeling, Allow ample time to complete projects/activities, Assist as needed
 

F. Checking for understanding-

Teacher will ask questions throughout and encourage responses from each child to ensure understanding.
 

G. Closure-

The children will gather back to carpet each day to share/discuss their completed project.
