3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Child will Independently tie his shoes.
2. Family will support daily home practice.
3. Child will successfully tie his own shoes in different environments.


 
4. Objectives-
1.Cognitive:
Within a two week period with 2 x's daily practice of the shoe tying sequence child will independently and verbally report the steps of the shoe tying sequence to his mother and or therapist.
2.Psychomotor:
Within a two week period with 2 x's daily practice following the visually sequenced steps to shoe tying child will execute the first three steps of the sequence independently per parent and therapist observation.
3.Affective:
Within the two week period child will report to therapist 2 examples of times of the day when he recognized the importance of the ability to independently tie his shoe. (I.e., playground, PE class

Visual check sheet
Daily rewards practice check sheet
Child's shoes
Additional for practice:
jump rope, two different colored laces
other material to tie such as clothes line
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Actions (This is in the clinic OT direct service)
1. Hand Warm UP exercise
2. Why and when we should tie shoes
3. Build obstacle course with tying station activities
 

B. Development-

1. Together create a sheet with the steps of shoe tying
could include photos or lined drawing. Attach to reward calendar with check boxes for 2x.s daily practice at home.
2. Therapist demonstrates sequence
 

C. Practice-

1. Practice on shortened jump rope to enter obstacle course
2. Practice on shoe tying box with treasure hidden within
3. Practice on own shoe off self
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Daily 2 x's practice at home
2.Use visual check sheet
3.Use the calendar with check boxes for each time practiced set up with reward plan
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. tie different materials, jump rope, clothes lines, shoe laces with pipe cleaners inserted, two colored laces
2. tie shoes off self
3.Backward chaining
4. tie shoes on self
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Direct therapist through the steps of shoe tying
2.Have child report back the steps of shoe tying with his parent
3. Have child direct back the tricky steps for him
 

G. Closure-

1.Review with child the great job he did practicing, remind of particular success and share with parent
2.Reminder to use check sheet and reward chart at home to receive treat at next session.

1.Review of goals and objectives
2.Determine family and child's feelings of accomplishment

What went well.
What should be altered for next session.
Should the lesson be modified to increase difficulty of keep it the same.
