1. Topic-
Cost Estimating a Production Run in a Machine Shop |
2. Content-
Students are given a blueprint and a sample part and need to estimate
cost per piece on a production run of 100 parts with a breakdown of
all expenses. |
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.improve time estimation
2.gain insight on tool/material cost
3.apply fixturing concepts into a complete fixture design.
4. develop a process plan |
4. Objectives-
1.work in a team environment
2.colaborate ideas
3.complete task in a two hour class period |

Text book
Internet/computer |
6. Procedures/Methods-
A. Introduction-
1.introduce blueprint
2.give students time to evaluate print
3.form student groups ( mock machine shop) |
B. Development-
1.review print for a different part
2.key points for production
3.cost of production
4.time required for production |
C. Practice-
1.students work through scenario with instructor as a class to estimate
cost on a similar part
2.questions and discussion afterwards
3.students are placed in their groups |
D. Independent Practice-
1.students estimate time for simple machine operations
2.actual time is compared to students estimated time
3.questions and discussion afterwards |
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1.video on production management to show to class
2.power point presentation at class beginning
3.prior reading assignment |
F. Checking for understanding-
1.student groups present their project to the class
2.students discuss presentation and question without instructor feedback
G. Closure-
1.instructor portrays the position of a customer and decides which
"shop" he will award the job to.
2.explanation from the instructor as to why and how his decision was
made |
7. Evaluation-
1.learner feedback forms
