3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Introduce the routine of Chalk Talk.
2. Provide an opportunity for students to practice Chalk Talk with the topic of inventions.
 
4. Objectives-
1.The student will practice the routine of Chalk Talk.
2. The student will consider ideas, questions, or problems about inventions by silently responding in writing to the prompts and thoughts of others.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Various color markers, large sheets of paper, timer, video on current day inventions
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Remind students of prior classes where we have looked at technology inventions and robots.
2. Show short video on current day inventions
3. Tell them they are going to share their knowledge, questions, ideas about inventions.
 

B. Development-

1. Introduce Chalk Talk routine.
2. Teacher models the routine by writing her thinking on a paper.
 

C. Practice-

1. Students will be in teacher created groups.
2. Each group will be given about 10 minutes per paper to respond to others ideas or the teacher created prompt.
3.The activity should be silent.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

The teacher will create groups that will accommodate those students who may struggle with this activity.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. The teacher will facilitate the groups by observing the interaction amongst the groups and responses on the papers.
2. The teacher will look for the relevance of the contributions being made.
3. Students will have the opportunity to revisit their original papers to read what others have written.
 

G. Closure-

The whole group will look at the papers.
 
7. Evaluation-
The teacher will ask evaluative questions about the papers to students i.e., What questions surprised them? How did their thinking develop during the Chalk Talk.
