Visit the Safe Kids website (www.safekids.com) and review all materials under the link "Safety Advice," located at the top of the page. Think about what you think it means for kids to use the Internet safely.

B. Development-

Students will research the information on the links "Child Safety on the Information Highway" and "Child Safety Search." Think critically about this information and why you think the site authors think it is important. Be sure to note three Internet safety facts for kids that you already knew, and three that you did not.

C. Practice-

After reviewing both sections, students will click on the link to the "Child Safety Quiz." Complete the quiz and write down your test results. REMEMBER TO WRITE DOWN THREE FACTS YOU ALREADY KNEW AND THREE THAT YOU JUST LEARNED!

D. Independent Practice-

After reviewing the materials addressing safe and unsafe Internet practices, write a one page reflection paper describing three things you learned from the lesson and three things you already knew. Then explain how what you did not know about Internet safety will affect your future Internet activity. Also write three sentences about how you will improve upon what you already knew about Internet safety for kids. Will you stop using Wikipedia or Google for some reason? Can you identify any sites that are considered unsafe for kids to generally use?

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Students may choose to either turn in their written findings or they may read their finding orally to the class, explaining what they already knew, what they did not know, and how they intend to change their online behavior moving forward. No matter which way you complete the assignment, be prepared to list three facts you already knew and three that you did not know.

F. Checking for understanding-

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the material through explaining at least three facts they learned and three that they already knew. Students will further elaborate by explaining what sorts of sites are the safest for kids and which are less safe.

G. Closure-

After completing this lesson, think about why kids should not be able to simply roam the Internet freely without supervision. What are some of the risks you face?

7. Evaluation-
Students progress will be based on demonstrating at least six facts about safely navigating the Internet(Three they knew and three they just learned). Students will also be evaluated based on listing known dangers they face online.
