1.Students will learn mouse basics
2.Students will learn computer basics
3.Students will learn beginning keyboarding skills
 
4. Objectives-
1. I can click, double click, drag and drop
2. I can open, close, and go back on a program
3. I can type words from a typing sheet by placing my fingers on the Home Row and sitting in the proper position
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Computers, Microsoft Word, typing sheets
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Teacher discusses proper position for fingers for typing (Home Row) and names the keys
2. Students repeat the Home Row keys
3. Teacher explains proper position- back straight, feet flat on floor, body facing the screen, fingers on Home Row keys, wrists up
3.
 

B. Development-

1. Explain and demonstrate proper keyboarding position
2. Model with fingers in the air how to type the first word with fingers on Home Row
 

C. Practice-

1.Students practice typing by sitting up straight, using Home Row keys, and typing the words on their sheets
2.Teacher monitors their position
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Students work independently on their typing sheets
2. Students type what they did over summer break when they are done by applying the keyboarding skills they learned
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Teacher assistance for students having difficulty
2. Less words to type
3. Modified word list
4. Words in Spanish if needed
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Have individual students name the Home Row keys
2. Have small groups discuss what proper position consists of
2. Discuss what font means and how to change it
 

G. Closure-

1. Review what we have learned
2. Students participate in discussion and answer questions orally
