Moodle, Online Chats, Video Chats, Discussion Groups, Online Calendar, News Forums
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.The student will gain experience in maneuvering through on online workshop.
2.The student will learn proper netiquette for online chats & discussion groups.
3.The student will learn the appropriate usage of online calendars and news forums.
 
4. Objectives-
By the end of the workshop, the student will--
1.Appropriately establish and participate in an online discussion group.
2.Appropriately participate in either an online video chat or print-based chat (or both) with the instructor.
3.Successfully post a new event to the online calendar and enter a short description on the news forum.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Computer (with webcam if available), Internet access, access to www.kai-rid.org/moodle website
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

An email will go out to selected students to invite them to participate in a "Moodle Introductory Workshop" in preparation for the KAI-RID mentoring program.
 

B. Development-

Provide clear, written instructions, backed up with screen shots of the step-by-step process to do the following:

1.Register and obtain a log-in user name & password at www.kai-rid.org/moodle
2.Access the Welcome to Moodle Workshop
3.Follow the lesson plans that will lead the students to complete several activities.
 

C. Practice-

1.Have the student register & log-in at www.kai-rid.org/moodle
2.Have the student go to "Moodle Intro" and the News Forum article
3.Have the student complete the task listed in the News Forum article
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Student will start a discussion thread by posting their reaction to the Netiquette reading.
2.Student will respond to 2 other students' postings.
3.Student will engage the instructor in a chat (either print or video) to discuss these postings.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Instruct student in techniques for enlarging the screen image
2.Instruct student in steps to engage screen reader
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1."Silently" visit discussion groups
2.Schedule chat with student
3.Check with students through email
 

G. Closure-

1.Re-visit goals
2.Discuss any issues
3.Provide any supplemental activities as needed
 
7. Evaluation-
1.Did students complete the various assignments?
2.Was the comfort level of students increased?
