Fluency
|
Student continuously
stops reading in order to pronounce words and interrupts
the flow of the reading. They cannot differentiate between
line breaks and punctuation. The student loses their
place more than 2 times during the reading.

Student struggles to
differentiate between punctuation and line breaks in
the passage. Their reading is choppy and they may lose
their place 1 or 2 times.

Student can read the
passage from start to finish without losing their place.
They may have 2-3 instances where they do not differentiate
between line breaks and punctuation.

Student can read the
entire passage without losing their place. They have
no more than 1 instance of struggling with the difference
between line breaks and punctuation.

Speed of Reading
|
Students reads at a
pace that is uncomprehendable. They either read too
slowly so you lose your place or too quickly so that
you cannot follow along. Student often has to pause
to find their place again in the passage.

The student's speed
is too fast or too slow. It is difficult to follow along
and read with the student. They may need to stop to
find their place again because they have read to fast
or too slow.

The student reads at
a manageable pace. They may read a little too fast or
a little too slow, but you can follow along and read
with the student. They do not need to stop and reread
sections of the story because they comprehend as they
are reading.

Student can read the
entire passage at a moderate speed. It is easy to follow
along with the student and they do not lose their place
while they are reading.
