Mastering Forehand Grip
|
Hold racquet with non-playing hand, handling pointing towards me and racquet facing down. V-shape should be created between thumb and index finger and hold loosely.

Shortening grip and placing it nearer to the shaft to increase my control of the racquet.
|
Once comfortable with finger position, move racquet back and forth between your hands to make change of grip easier.

By shortening grip and keeping fingers loose, it helped to increase control and accuracy when I was serving from front and mid courts

Mastering Backhand Grip
|
Racquet held like forehand grip except I turned the racket anti-clockwise so the space between my fingers is more to the left.
|
Shortening grip and placing it nearer to the shaft to increase my control of the racquet.

By shortening grip and keeping fingers loose, it helped to increase control and accuracy when I was serving from front and mid courts. Mastery of both these grips are the basics to perfecting the game.

Mastering High Serve
|
Keep knees bent and legs slightly apart, leading with non-racquet leg. Move back and forth between legs holding racquet using forehand grip.

Bring your racket back to almost your shoulder level then swing it forward following the rhythm of the stroke
|
Hold the shuttle by the feathers and let it drop slightly in front of you.
- Hit it with the flat face of your racket and follow through until your racket reaches the non-racket side of your head.

Use this badminton serve during singles play to move your opponent as far back in court as possible. This opens up the court.

Mastering Low Serve
|
Keep knees bent and legs slightly apart, leading with non-racquet leg. Move back and forth between legs holding racquet using forehand grip or backhand grip.

Bring your racket back to your waist level then start your forward swing. Hold the shuttle by the feathers and bring it closer to meet the racket instead of dropping it in front.
|
Contact the shuttle at a higher point but still below your waist line. Practice connection with racquet.
|
Push the shuttle with the racket face and try to make the shuttle skim the tape of the net. The closer to the top of the net the more you will catch your opponent off guard.

Mastering Flick Serve
|
Using forehand grip and flick wrist.
|
The ability to pretend you will be using a low serve but quickly flick wrist
|
Using backhand grip and flick wrist. This was harder to get used to but is useful for surprising opponent.
|
Best used when rushing, while using both backhand and/or forehand grip.
