Book: Friendship Accordingly to Humphrey |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
|
A. Introduction-
| Write the word RESPECT on the Smartboard. Ask students to take out
their writing journals and write down what they think the word means. |
| |
|
|
B. Development-
| Read the book "Friendship Accordingly to Humphrey." Ask these questions:
Did Humphrey show respect to the frog? Did the frog show respect to
Humphrey? Give synonyms for the word respect (esteem, honor, value,
appreciate, compliment) |

|
|
C. Practice-
| Put the class into group and have them write down the qualities
of a friend. Ask them to write down what a friend does that shows
respect. Bring the groups back into a whole group and discuss what
they wrote on their charts. |

D. Independent Practice-
| Have students each draw a picture of one of their friends. Label
the picture and write down what qualities they like about the person. |

|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
| Students who need assistance may sit at the "Teacher's Cafe" for
one on one help. |
| |
|
|
F. Checking for understanding-
| Walk around the room and see what qualities of a friend the students
are writing down. Note if they are using the word respect or synonyms
for respect. |
| |
|
|
G. Closure-
| Students will come to the Smarboard and write down the qualities
of a friend. Teacher will emphasis what a great part that "respect"
plays in friendships. |
