1.Students will create a timeline of a specific decade within the
civil rights movement.
2.Students will learn the importance of the Civil Rights Movement
through research and presentation.

4. Objectives-
|
1.Students will show their understanding of what a timeline is and
what it consists of by creating their own.
2.Students will work in groups and research their assigned decade
of the Civil Rights Movement.
3.Students will give detail about each Civil Rights event that occurred
within their decade.
4.Students will show understanding of Civil Rights concepts by presenting
finished timeline to class. |

|
Internet access, paper, markers, glue sticks, scissors |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
Introduction-
1.Ask students what they believe the Civil Rights movement was about.
2.Show PowerPoint presentation with slides depicting different events
of importance and key people throughout the Civil Rights Movement.
3.Review important vocabulary words related to key events from the
Civil Rights Movement. |

|
Practice-
1.Students will be given hand outs with the names and descriptions
of events and key people throughout history and must determine which
events occurred/which people were important during the Civil Rights
movement.
2.Students will be given second hand out where they will match key
words to their definitions.

|
Checking for understanding-
1.Students will present finished group timeline to peers to teach
them about their assigned decade of the Civil Rights Movement.
2.Students will write a small paragraph about the information they
learned from each presentation, and what they thought was the most
important event of each decade. |

|
Closure-
1.Toegether, we will have a discussion about how they feel the Civil
Rights Movement has impacted or continues to impact their lives today.
2.This activity could also be done individually, with each student
making their own timeline on what they believe are the most important
events throughout the Civil Rights Movement. |

7. Evaluation-
|
1.Students show understanding of the key people and key events throughout
the Civil Rights Movement through knowledgeable presentation of timeline.
2.Students are able to identify important events and people from the
Civil Rights Movement throughout the different decades. |
